The 1st person conjugation of Estar is ESTOY, which means "I am" and has two main things that can follow it:
1. An Adjective ie. happy, sad, tired, sick, free, etc. This is just a matter of you looking up and memorizing how to say those various words on your own.
2. A Verb ie. talking, learning, living, etc.
We’ll only be focusing on scenario 2.
So... FIRST, we need to figure out how to take the original verb and put an "ING" on the end of it.
To do that, we use the Verb endings,
"-ANDO"
&
"-IENDO".
Remember how all Spanish verbs end in either AR, ER or IR...?
So, here are the rules:
- For verbs ending in AR, to say you are doing that thing, drop the AR and add -ANDO.
So, for the HABLAR verb:
I am talking = Yo estoy hablando.
- For verbs ending in ER and IR, to say you are doing that thing, drop the ER or IR and add -IENDO.
So, for the APRENDER verb and the VIVIR verbs:
I am learning = Yo estoy aprendiendo and
I am living = Yo estoy viviendo
